Update- Salmonella Newport Linked to Frozen Ground Tuna

On April 15, 2019, Jensen Tuna voluntarily recalled frozen ground tuna. The recalled tuna was individually packaged in one-pound bags and sold in 20-pound boxes under lot numbers z266, z271, and z272. Jensen Tuna distributed product to Connecticut, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, New York, North Dakota, and Washington, but product could have been redistributed further, reaching additional states. The recall came after 13 people infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella Newport have been reported from 7 states. In epidemiologic interviews, the CDC said 9 (75%) of 12 people reported eating sushi from a restaurant or grocery store in the days prior to illness. On May 9, 2019, JK Fish from Vietnam was added to Import Alert for fish, allowing the FDA to detain its products without any additional physical sampling or analysis. @ https://www.fda.gov/food/outbreaks-foodborne-illness/outbreak-investigation-salmonella-newport-linked-frozen-ground-tuna?utm_campaign=Outbreak%20Tuna%205_9_2019%20Email&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Eloqua
