Update on the outbreak investigation of E. coli O121:H19 in Organic Carrots (November 2024)

The FDA reported that on November 21, 2024, the recall of carrots was expanded to include additional bag sizes for organic whole carrots under the following labels: (i) Bunny Luv: 50-lb. (ii) Cal-Organic: 15-lb and 50-lb, and Good & Gather: 1-lb. On November 26, 2024, 4Earth Farms of Commerce, California, recalled multiple brands of Organic Vegetable Medley, Conventional Vegetable Medley, and Organic Whole Carrots. The recall was initiated after 4Earth Farms was notified by Grimmway Farms, Inc. that carrots used in the Vegetable Medleys and Whole Organic Carrots may have been contaminated with E. coli O121:H19. The total number of illnesses from the organic carrots is 39, with 15 hospitalizations. and one death. States with Cases: AR, CA, CO, MA, MI, MN, MO, NC, NJ, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TX, VA, WA, and WY. Do not eat or serve multiple brands of recalled bagged organic whole and baby carrots supplied by Grimmway Farms. FDA’s investigation is ongoing.
