Update on the investigation E. coli outbreak of onions served at McDonald’s

The CDC reported that epidemiologic and traceback data show that fresh, slivered onions served at McDonald's are the likely source of this outbreak. Onions were pulled from affected McDonald's locations, and Taylor Farms recalled yellow slivered onions sent to other food service operators. As of October 30, 90 people infected with the outbreak strain of E. coli O157:H7 have been reported from 13 states. Of 83 people with information available, 27 have been hospitalized, and 2 people developed hemolytic uremic syndrome. One death has been reported from an older adult in Colorado. This person is not one of those who developed HUS. FDA has initiated inspections at a Taylor Farms processing center in Colorado, but the FDA has been unable to implicate a grower. The Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) and FSIS tested all lots of McDonalds beef patties and found them all negative for E. coli. @ https://www.cdc.gov/ecoli/outbreaks/investigation-update-e-coli-o157-2024.html
