In October. 22, 2024, in a letter to Costco members, Acme Smoked Fish the producer of smoked salmon said it was issuing the recall "with an abundance of caution" due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. In January 2025, the FDA designated the recall as Class I, the highest risk level assigned. A total of 111 cases of Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon in twin 12 oz. packages were recalled in 2024 after laboratory testing confirmed Listeria monocytogenes on October 21, 2024. Although the recalled product is no longer on shelves, some customers may have frozen the smoked salmon for later use.
