The FDA's investigation of the outbreak of E. coli O26:H11 (ref #1272) has closed. CDC, FDA, and state partners conducted epidemiologic and traceback investigations and identified Alfalfa or Clover sprouts as the likely source of illnesses in this outbreak. Although sprouts were confirmed as the vehicle, investigators were unable to determine which type of sprouts was making people sick. FDA collected and analyzed product samples as part of the investigation, but all samples were reported as negative for E. coli. Additionally, once investigators had enough information to confirm sprouts as the source of this outbreak, the products were past their shelf life and no longer available for sale. This outbreak is over, and there is no risk to consumers. @ https://www.fda.gov/food/outbreaks-foodborne-illness/investigations-foodborne-illness-outbreaks?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery
