The CORE update for September 16, 2026

The CORE update lists 16 outbreaks and adverse event postings. For the Salmonella Bovismorbificans outbreak (ref #1411) linked to sprouts from Evergreen Fresh Sprouts LLC, the FDA has initiated sampling. For the Salmonella Newport outbreak (ref #1403), the case count increased from 109 to 111. For the Listeria monocytogenes outbreak (ref #1379), the case count increased from 9 to 10. For the Cyclospora outbreak (ref #1392), the case count increased from 231 to 234. The Cyclospora outbreak (ref #1390) linked to iceberg lettuce has ended. FDA’s investigation is ongoing. As of September 11, 2026, CDC has declared this outbreak over. Although the outbreak is over, FDA continues its investigation of Cyclospora infections linked to iceberg lettuce sourced from central Mexico and recalled by Taylor Farms de Mexico. The total case count associated with this multistate outbreak is now 12,883 illnesses reported from 21 states. Since the last update, one additional state has been added: Virginia. For the E. coli O145:H28 (ref #1389) outbreak linked to frozen blueberries, FDA updated the outbreak advisory on September 11, 2026, with additional distribution information. On September 11, 2026, Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A., San Carlos, Chile updated their press release, to clarify the recalled lot of Great Value-brand Frozen Organic Triple Berry Blend product sold in 10-oz packages with a printed lot code of 6040 01-6 and Best by Date of February 9, 2028, was sold at Walmart stores in 26 states and Puerto Rico (new states include: IA, KS, MI, NE, ND, SD, and WV). For the outbreak of Salmonella Newport (ref #1366) linked to cantaloupe. For the Listeria monocytogenes outbreak (ref #1380) linked to soft cheese, the Executive Summary Abstract noted that the cluster and corresponding investigation involved 8 cases from 3 states: MD (3), NY (2), and VA (3).
