The CORE update for August 19, 2026

The CORE update lists 19 outbreaks and adverse event postings. A new outbreak of E. coli O103:H25 (ref #1394) has been added to the table. The FDA has initiated traceback. The outbreak of Salmonella I 4,[5],12:i:-(ref #1402) linked to an unidentified product increased the case count from 30 to 41. FDA has initiated an on-site inspection and sampling. The outbreak of Cyclospora (ref #1398) linked to an unidentified product, the case count has increased from 11 to 14. This incident now includes additional illnesses based on similarities in reported exposures. The outbreak of Salmonella Javiana (ref #1395) linked to jalapeño peppers, the FDA updated the advisory with new information about downstream recalls of products containing recalled jalapeños. See the advisory for additional details. As a result of Coast Citrus Distributors' recall, downstream recalls are being conducted for recalled jalapeños and products containing them. NatureBest Precut & Produce LLC recalled NatureBest-brand and HEB-brand products containing recalled jalapeños that were distributed to stores in Texas and Louisiana between July 3, 2026, and August 5, 2026. The products include pico de gallo, stuffed mushrooms, and soup mix containing recalled jalapeños. Following the outbreak of Cyclospora (ref #1390) linked to iceberg lettuce, the FDA updated the Outbreak advisory on August 13, 2026, with case count information. Most of the illnesses began before the Taylor Farms de Mexico recall of iceberg lettuce on July 17, 2026. The total case count for this multistate outbreak is now 9,481 illnesses reported across 17 states. Since the last update, 2 additional states have been added: Maine and Massachusetts. The outbreak of Cyclospora (ref #1385) linked to an unidentified product, the case count has increased from 25 to 27. The outbreak of Salmonella Oranienburg (ref #1387), linked to an unidentified product, increased the case count from 97 to 99. The Salmonella Newport outbreak (ref #1366), linked to cantaloupe, has closed.
