Apple juice recall due to elevated arsenic levels expands to products sold at Aldi, BJ’s, Walgreens

The FDA first reported in their Enforcement Recall page on August 26, 2024 on contaminated Great Value beverages that were sold in six-packs of 8-ounce plastic bottles. The product had a “best if used by” date code of DEC2824 CT89-6. All of the products were produced by Tampa, Florida-based Refresco Beverages US Inc. The initial voluntary recall by Refresco Beverages was first announced in a class 2 enforcement from the FDA included 9,535 cases of Great Value 100% Apple Juice sold at Walmart. The recall was updated to a total of 133,500 cases of juice, which were sold at several stores in addition to Walmart, under varying brand names. According to the FDA’s report, the recalled product “contains inorganic arsenic above action level set in guidance to industry. On August 23, 2024, out of an abundance of caution, the company voluntarily initiated a recall of some select lots of 100% apple juice products produced using supplier provided concentrate when they became aware that previously manufactured product contained inorganic arsenic slightly above the FDA’s 10 ppb (parts per billion) action level as set by the FDA in June 2023 in the FDA Final Guidance to Industry on Action Level for Inorganic Arsenic in Apple Juice.  The newly expanded recall includes juice that was sold at Aldi, BJ’s Wholesale Club, Dollar General, Market Basket, Walgreens, Walmart, Key Food, and Weis Markets, under brands such as Nice! 100% Apple Juice and Clover Valley 100% Apple Juice, among others. All of the products were produced by Tampa, Florida-based Refresco Beverages US Inc. @ https://abc7chicago.com/post/apple-juice-recall-2024-walmart-expands-products-sold-aldi-bjs-walgreens-due-elevated-arsenic-levels/15289777/

The FSA reported that fake Glen’s Vodka contains isopropyl alcohol that can be fatal

The UK FSA issued an urgent alert about counterfeit vodka labeled as Glen’s Vodka. The counterfeit vodka may have a strange smell and taste different from genuine vodka. The product was found to contain isopropyl alcohol, making the product unsafe. Consumption of isopropyl alcohol can lead to alcohol poisoning and, in severe cases, death. The alert specifically applies to 35cl bottles that lack a laser-etched lot code between the rear label and the base of the bottle. The FSA has also issued a “Food Alert for Action” notice to local authorities, instructing them to inspect establishments in their areas for counterfeit products and to raise awareness among businesses. @ https://www.food.gov.uk/news-alerts/alert/fsa-fafa-03-2024
