Oysters and clams harvested in Washington State were recalled due to norovirus contamination

Oysters and clams harvested in Mason County, WA, by Gomez Shellfish, LLC, between March 22 and April 9, 2026, are recalled due to potential norovirus contamination. These products were shipped to Washington, Oregon, and California, with reported illnesses in Whatcom County, WA. The Washington State Department of Health recalled clams and oysters sold at one store and two restaurants in Whatcom County due to norovirus contamination. Five people in Whatcom County ate oysters that were linked to the recall, according to a Thursday, April 16, news release by Whatcom County Health and Community Services. The recall includes oysters sold at the Community Food Co-op’s downtown Bellingham location from March 27–31; at Rock & Rye Oyster House between March 29 and April 4; and at Keenan’s at the Pier from March 19–23, and March 29 to April 3. Local businesses are no longer selling or serving the potentially contaminated products, according to the news release.
