Outbreak Investigation of Hepatitis A Virus: Strawberries (May 2022)

On June 1, the FDA issued an update on Hepatitis A in organic strawberries. The contaminated strawberries were imported from Baja California, a state in northern Mexico, and branded as FreshKampo and HEB by a common supplier; they were purchased between March 5, 2022, and April 25, 2022. In Canada, PHAC and CFIA are also investigating an outbreak of hepatitis A due to imported organic strawberries. These fresh organic strawberries branded as FreshKampo and HEB products are past shelf life and are unavailable for purchase in stores. The strawberries have been sold at HEB, Kroger, Safeway, Sprouts Farmers Market, Trader Joe’s, Walmart, Weis Markets, and WinCo Foods. Seventeen people got sick in three states (CA (15), MN (1), and ND (1)) from this outbreak, with 12 hospitalizations. @
