On November 15, 2024, the FDA transitioned from its initial response activities managed by the FDA’s CORE Network to identify the source and to contain the event to minimize illness. The agency is now focused on post-incident response actions and activities, which may include additional surveillance prevention and compliance activities. On October 18, 2024, all Diamond Shruumz-brand products have been recalled and should not be available for sale. As of October 31, 2024, CDC’s investigation identified a total of 180 illnesses reported from 34 states (AL (8), AZ (13), CA (3), CO (1), FL (6), GA (21), IA (6), ID (4), IL (2), IN (8), KS (5), KY (11), MD (2), MI (2), MN (3), MO (1), MT (3), NC (12), ND (3), NJ (3), NV (2), NY (2), OH (6), OK (1), OR (1), PA (2), SC (12), SD (1), TN (9), TX (19), VA (2), WA (2), WI (1), and WV (3)); 73 people have been hospitalized, and there are three (3) potentially associated deaths. As of November 4, 2024, test results are available for 22 Diamond Shruumz-brand gummies. CORE’s investigation is complete, and the agency is now focused on post-incident actions and activities. As part of their recall announcement, Prophet Premium Blends, LLC indicated that Diamond Shruumz-brand products contain muscimol. To date, the FDA has tested 22 samples of Chocolate Bars, 10 Infused Cones, 22 Gummies, and one raw ingredient that was reportedly used in manufacturing some Diamond Shruumz-brand products. Nine (9) of the 22 Chocolate Bars, five (5) of the 10 Infused Cones, and the raw ingredient contained muscimol. Muscimol does not appear in all products and cannot explain all the symptoms reported by ill people who consumed the Diamond Shruumz-brand products. Additionally, the product samples identified the presence of the following compounds: Acetylpsilocin was found in nine (9) Chocolate Bar samples, five (5) Infused Cone samples, and 14 Gummies samples; Psilocin was found in four (4) Chocolate Bar samples, five (5) Infused Cone samples, and 14 Gummies samples; Pregabalin was found in three (3) Chocolate Bar samples, five (5) Infused Cone samples, and four (4) Gummies samples; Desmethoxyyangonin, dihydrokavain, and kavain were all present together in 18 Chocolate Bar samples, all 10 of the Infused Cone samples, and 11 Gummies samples; Ibotenic acid and muscimol were detected in the raw ingredient that was reportedly used in the manufacturing of some Diamond Shruumz-brand products. @ https://www.fda.gov/food/outbreaks-foodborne-illness/investigation-illnesses-diamond-shruumz-brand-chocolate-bars-cones-gummies-june-2024?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery
