Frank Yiannas (Former FDA Deputy Commissioner) was appointed as Boar’s Head Interim Chief Food Safety Officer

Food Safety Magazine reported that, effective immediately, due to the fatal listeriosis outbreak caused by Boar’s Head products, it had chosen Frank Yiannas (former FDA Deputy Commissioner for Food Policy and Response), as interim CFSO. In this role, Mr. Yiannas will help ensure food safety and quality standards are met across the company and oversee the nationwide search for a permanent CFSO to succeed him. Mr. Yiannas was also selected as Chair of the Boar’s Head Food Safety Advisory Council.  Other council members include David Acheson, Mindy Brashears, and Martin Wiedmann. As of September 25, at least 59 cases of illness and ten fatalities have been associated with the nationwide outbreak. The USDA-FSIS is pursuing law enforcement action against the company, involving both criminal and civil statutes. Members of Congress have asked USDA-FSIS to answer questions about its inspection actions leading up to the fatal Boar’s Head listeriosis outbreak and its authorities and processes for preventing such events.  @ https://www.food-safety.com/articles/9797-former-fda-deputy-commissioner-frank-yiannas-appointed-boars-head-interim-chief-food-safety-officer
