January 14, 2022- Today, the FDA released its report on the investigation of Salmonella Typhimurium that caused 31 illnesses and four hospitalizations in the U.S. between June and August 2021. This outbreak is believed to be the FDA’s first domestic investigation of a foodborne illness outbreak associated with leafy greens grown in a Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) operation. Although a conclusive root cause was not be identified, the FDA identified certain conditions and practices that could result in contamination.
