CORE Outbreak Investigation update November 14, 2024

CORE update of November 14, 2024: the CORE list of outbreaks and adverse events includes nine activities, with one new activity. A new outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 (ref #1269) linked to an unidentified product has been added to the table. FDA has initiated traceback. The outbreak of E. coli O121:H19 (ref #1273) linked to an unidentified product, the case count was adjusted from 33 to 37 cases. The outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 (ref #1270) was linked to onions, and the FDA updated the outbreak. As of November 13, 2024, 104 people infected with the outbreak strain of E. coli O157:H7. 34 have been hospitalized, 4 developed HUS, and one death has been reported. The outbreak of Salmonella Thompson (ref #1262) linked to an unidentified product has ended. The outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 (ref #1249) linked to an unidentified outbreak has ended. The FDA's investigation of the outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes (ref #1247) has closed. The FDA's investigation of the outbreak of Cyclospora cayetanensis (ref #1245) has closed. CDC, FDA, and state and local partners conducted epidemiologic and traceback investigations and identified shrimp salad, made with fresh produce ingredients, as the source of illnesses in this outbreak. All products have past shelf life and are no longer on the market. There is no ongoing risk to public health. The outbreak of Cyclospora cayetanensis (ref #1237), the FDA's investigation has closed, and the case count has adjusted to 49. CDC, FDA, and state and local partners conducted epidemiologic and traceback investigations and identified imported parsley as the source of illnesses in this outbreak. All products have passed shelf life and are no longer on the market. There is no ongoing risk to public health. The FDA's investigation of the outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium (ref #1234) has closed. CDC, FDA, and state and local partners conducted epidemiologic and traceback investigations and identified jalapeno pepper as the source of illnesses in this outbreak.
