Boar’s Head reopened its facility in Jarratt, Virginia, on February 2, 2026. The opening came almost 17 months after the mid-2024 closing, due to one of the deadliest foodborne illness outbreaks in recent history linked to Listeria monocytogenes in liverwurst. The outbreak sickened 61 people and killed 10 people in multiple states. The facility resumed limited operations following extensive safety upgrades and a change in leadership. Over the past year, the Jarratt facility has undergone extensive renovation. The improvements include reopening under the USDA Alt 2 Listeria control program, enhanced environmental monitoring and analysis, strengthened sanitation protocols, adoption of updated, comprehensive food safety procedures, new leadership, and the use of the Food Safety Advisory Council. Led by Frank Yiannas, the development of a culture of food safety. @ https://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/boars-head-reopens-jarratt-virginia-facility-following-comprehensive-upgrades-302680610.html
