Update of the outbreak investigation of Salmonella in Deep-brand Frozen Products (July 2025)

The FDA reported on September 8, 2025, that Chetak LLC Group expanded the recall to include several lots of Deep-brand frozen vegetables and fruit products. The outbreak investigation for Deep-brand frozen products linked to Salmonella Anatum infections is still active. Since the start of this investigation, multiple Deep-brand product samples have been collected at import for testing and analysis. On August 22, 2025, the FDA was informed that a sample of Deep-brand Frozen Singoda (Water Chestnut) had tested positive for Salmonella and was refused entry into the United States. WGS analysis later determined that the strain of Salmonella identified in the product does not match the outbreak strain. The outbreak has sickened 11 people across 10 states (CT, FL, IL, MA, MN, NJ, PA, TN, VA, WA). Four of the patients have been hospitalized. The investigation has identified additional affected products, and as a result, Chetak has expanded its recall to include 61 products, including fruits and vegetables. The FDA confirmed that the strain in a sample of Deep-brand Premium Select Frozen SURTI UNDHIU MIX. Consumers should not eat, sell, or serve the recalled Deep-brand frozen sprouted mat (moth) beans, frozen sprouted moong (mung) beans, and the specific lot of SURTI UNDHIU MIX.
