Outbreak of Salmonella infections linked to poultry, including frozen raw breaded chicken products

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced that there are 30 cases of Salmonella Enteritis in four provinces: Alberta (2), Ontario (17), Quebec (7), and New Brunswick (4). Four individuals have been hospitalized. Individuals became sick between May 2017 and February 2018. Based on the investigation findings to date, exposure to poultry, including frozen raw breaded chicken products has been identified as a source of illness. The Public Health Agency of Canada is collaborating with provincial public health partners, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, and Health Canada to investigate an outbreak of Salmonella Enteritidis infections in four provinces with cases of human illness linked to poultry, including frozen raw breaded chicken products.

International Harvest, Inc. Recalls Organic Go Smile! Raw Coconut Due to Salmonella

International Harvest, Inc of Mount Vernon, NY recalled 14,620 lbs. of bulk and 24,270 bags of Organic Go Smile! Raw Coconut, because it may be contaminated with Salmonella. The product was distributed to customers via online retailers, retail stores, and distributors in the following states: NY, NJ, CT, CA, CO, OK, GA, VT, IL, FL, ME, WA, NH, and UT. International Harvest, Inc of Mount Vernon, NY is recalling 14,620 lbs. of bulk and 24,270 bags of Organic Go Smile! Raw Coconut, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Additional Mechanically Tenderized Steaks Recalled due to Salmonella

SMI Holdings, Inc., (Stampede Meat, Inc.), from Bridgeview, Ill., recalled approximately 484,800 pounds of beef products that may be contaminated with Salmonella, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.
