K9 Natural recalls frozen raw dog food due to Listeria monocytogenes

K9 Natural dog food recalled Natural Frozen Chicken Feast raw pet food due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. K9 Natural said that they were notified by the Colorado Department of Agriculture that Natural Frozen Chicken Feast a 2.2-pound bag was contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The New Zealand K9 website said that the recall covers four batches with expiration dates on 15-17 November 2018. The batches were distributed in Texas, California, Pennsylvania, Washington and Colorado. The post didn’t state the numerous distributor-to-retailer paths, so bags in the recall could have been sent to pet retail stores anywhere in the United States. 207 million eggs recalled due to Salmonella

The FDA announced that Rose Acre Farms of Seymour, Indiana is voluntarily recalling 206,749,248 eggs because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup. The eggs were distributed from the farm in Hyde County, North Carolina and were sold to consumers in the following states: Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia through retail stores and restaurants via direct delivery. 22 illnesses have been reported to date. The recall was a result of some illnesses reported on the U.S. East Coast, which led to extensive interviews and eventually a thorough FDA inspection of the Hyde County farm, which produces 2.3 million eggs a day. Through an abundance of caution Rose Acre Farms of Seymour, Indiana is voluntarily recalling 206,749,248 eggs because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella Braenderup, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy individuals infected with Salmonella Braenderup can experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella Braenderup can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Report: UPDATE ON LISTERIOSIS OUTBREAK, SOUTH AFRICA- 1011 cases with 193 dead

From the beginning of the outbreak in January of 2017, until 09 April 2018, a total of 1011 laboratory-confirmed listeriosis cases have been reported to National Institute for Communicable Disease (NICD). Listeria monocytogenes was most commonly isolated/detected in blood culture (73%, 733/1011), followed by CSF (21%, 213/1011). The ages of the infected people range from birth to 93 years (median 18 years) and 41% (418/1011) are neonates aged ≤28 days. Of neonatal cases, 96% (402/418) had early-onset disease (birth to ≤6 days). Females account for 56% (549/979) of cases where gender was reported.
