FDA Finally Alerts the Public Regarding Recalled Vegetable Products Contaminated with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes

On October 19, 2018, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that several vegetable products from McCain Foods USA, Inc. are possibly contaminated with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. The recall of these vegetables led to numerous recalls of products including salads and wraps that used the vegetables from McCain Foods as ingredients. On October 14th, McCain Foods initiated a recall of their products out of an abundance of caution. SK Food Group Recalls Chicken Products

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced that SK Food Group, from Groveport, Ohio, and Reno, Nevada recalled approximately 174,207 pounds of chicken wrap products that contain vegetables that may be contaminated with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. These items were shipped directly to consumers through catalog sales in California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Revealed: McCain Foods from Canada confirmed as corn supplier

Food Safety News reports that the USDA today named McCain Foods as the supplier of potentially contaminated corn cited in the string of recalls for a variety of foods from many manufacturers and retailers. Oct. 18, the Midwest grocery chain Hy-Vee named McCain Foods supplied ingredients for fresh meat, poultry, and potato products under recall from all of its 245 stores across eight states. McCain Foods, headquartered in Ontario, Canada, is a privately owned multinational company specializing in frozen foods, especially potato products such as French fries and other vegetables. Hy-Vee Voluntarily Recalls Several Meat and Potato Products

The FDA announced that Hy-Vee, Inc., of West Des Moines, Iowa, recalled six of its meat and potato products across its eight-state region due to possible contamination with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.
