The CORE update of March 13, 2025

The CORE update list of outbreaks and adverse events includes six entries. A new outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes (ref #1286) linked to an unidentified product has been added to the table. FDA has initiated sampling. The outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes (ref #1292) is linked to an unidentified product, and the FDA has initiated an inspection. Jumbo Supermarkten in Belgium recalled “BIO Zonnebloempitten” sunflower seeds (500g) due to the presence of Salmonella

Jumbo brand Supermarkten in Belgium withdrew the Jumbo brand “BIO Zonnebloempitten” sunflower seeds (500g) with the expiry dates of “09-10-2025, 21-08-2025, and 14-11-2025” recalling the products  due to the presence of Salmonella. The company requested that the products be returned to the place of purchase. The product name is BIO Zonnebloempitten ( ORGANIC sunflower seeds). The product is packaged in clear plastic bag and weighs 500 grams. New Age International recalls Daily Veggies brand enoki mushroom due to Listeria monocytogenes

The FDA reported that New Age International Inc. of Brooklyn, NY, recalled all lots of Daily Veggies brand Enoki Mushroom, 200g, the product of Korea, because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled Enoki Mushrooms were distributed to wholesalers in NY that were distributed to other states. The recalled product comes in a clear plastic package printed with yellow and green ink declaring Daily Veggies Enoki Mushroom Product of Korea Net Wt. 200g (7.05oz. No Illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem. The contamination was discovered after samples were collected from a store in West Virginia on 1/14/2025. The FDA Advises not to serve or sell and not to eat Frozen Half-Shell Oysters from Republic of Korea contaminated with Norovirus

The California Department of Health notified the FDA of a norovirus outbreak on 3/7/2025 by Sea Win of frozen half shell oysters from the Republic of Korea (ROK), harvested on 1/30/2024 and 2/4/2024 from Designated Area II in the ROK due to the norovirus outbreak. The frozen half-shell oysters were shipped to distributors and retailers in CA and may have been distributed to other states, as well. Sea Win (CA 353 SS of Los Angeles, CA) recalled frozen half-shell oysters from KR-7-SP. The FDA is advising restaurants and food retailers not to serve or sell and to dispose of these frozen half-shell oysters and consumers not to eat them because they may be contaminated with Norovirus. The product was recalled by the importer, Sea Win, Inc.
