The CFIA reported that Sweet Spot Chocolate Shop recalled Sweet Spot Chocolate Shop brand peanut butter-containing chocolates from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination. The recalled products have been sold in Nova Scotia and online. The Jif recall in the US triggered this recall. The FDA reported that Brookshire Grocery Company (Tyler, Texas) had issued a voluntary recall of bulk Yellow Flesh Peaches available in stores between 4/15/22 and 5/17/22 because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The Yellow Flesh Peaches were sold at Brookshire’s, Super 1 Foods, Spring Market, and FRESH by Brookshire’s retail stores in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas. They are a product of Chile and may have a PLU sticker with the words “CHILE” and “TREE RIPE YELLOW PEACH” and the numeral 4044.  The potentially affected product was received from a distributor and shipped to store locations between 4/15/22 and 4/24/22.  Due to the fresh nature of the product, no fresh fruit is expected to be in any household, but consumers who may have frozen or otherwise preserved this item may have it in their possession. No illnesses have been reported to Brookshire Grocery Company to date. The recall results from random sampling conducted at Brookshire’s distribution center by the Texas Department of State Health Services after the potentially affected product was shipped to stores revealed a positive test for Listeria monocytogenes.  Brookshire Grocery Company immediately disposed of the affected product at the distribution center, issued a recall notice to its stores, and implemented sanitation procedures at all retail and affected locations. @ https://www.fda.gov/safety/recalls-market-withdrawals-safety-alerts/brookshire-grocery-company-recalls-yellow-flesh-peaches-because-possible-health-risk

The FDA and CDC and state and local partners are investigating a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Senftenberg linked to Jif peanut butter products produced at the J.M. Smucker Company facility in Lexington, Kentucky. CDC’s review of epidemiological information indicates that five out of five people reported consuming peanut butter, and four of the five people specifically reported consuming different varieties of Jif brand peanut butter before becoming ill. FDA conducted Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) analysis on an environmental sample collected at the Lexington, KY, J.M. Smucker Company facility in 2010. The analysis shows that this 2010 environmental sample matches the strain-causing illnesses in this current outbreak. A large number of recalls resulted from the Jif recall. At least ten recalls are attributed to Jif,  including Fudgeamentals (Fudge), Del Monte (Fresh cut fruit and vegetable products), Albertsons Companies (Store-prepared items containing peanut butter), Coblentz Chocolate Company (Various chocolate products containing peanut butter), Mary’s Harvest Fresh Foods Inc (Celery and Apple Peanut Butter Cups), Garden Cut (Apple Wedges and Celery Bites with Peanut Butter), TAHER (Power Packs), Country Fresh (Fresh Cut Fruit Snack Trays and Fruit Snack Cups), Cargill (Multiple Chocolate Products), and Wawa (Apple & Peanut Butter Dipper). @ https://www.fda.gov/safety/major-product-recalls/2022-recalls-food-products-associated-peanut-butter-jm-smucker-company-due-potential-risk-salmonella

The FDA reported that Country Fresh recalled select fresh-cut fruit snack trays and fruit snack cups containing Jif® peanut butter subject to a previously announced voluntary recall initiated by J. M. Smucker Co. The pre-packaged peanut butter components may potentially be contaminated with Salmonella. The fruit snack trays and fruit snack cups containing recalled peanut butter were distributed in various retail stores in Alabama, Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia. The products are in a clear, square, or round plastic package, marked with “best by” date printed on the label. According to the CDC, several illnesses have been reported to date with the J. M. Smucker Co. recall.
