According to the CFIA, Gordon Food Service (“GFS”) Canada, a Milton, Ontario establishment, recalled Split Top Brioche Style Buns from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Cronobacter sakazakii and/or Clostridium botulinum contamination. The FDA reported that Keswick Creamery(Newburg, PA) recalled Calverley Cheese, Vulkwin’s Folly Cheese, Vermeer Cheese, Havarti Cheese, Wallaby Cheese, Cider Washed Tomme Cheese, Feta Cheese, Whole Milk Ricotta, Bovre Cheese (plain, oregano and garlic, herbes de provence, cranberry and honey) and Quark Cheese (plain, dill, and onion) because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. All Cheeses were distributed at Dupont Circle Freshfarm Market in Washington, D.C.; Takoma Park Farmers Market in Takoma Park, Maryland; Smith Meadows Farm Store in Berryville, Virginia; Oylers Organic Farms and Market in Biglerville, Pennsylvania; and Talking Breads Farm Store in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. No illnesses have been reported to date. The recall resulted from a routine sampling program conducted by the FDA which revealed some finished products contained the bacteria. The USDA/FSIS announced that Connoisseur’s Kitchen (Surrey, British Columbia) recalled approximately 880 pounds of frozen ready-to-eat (RTE) chicken entree products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The products include “SPICE MANTRA CHICKEN KORMA” and “SPICE MANTRA BUTTER CHICKEN.” These items were shipped to retail locations in Alaska and Washington. The problem was discovered when the CFIA notified FSIS that the products were associated with a sample that tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. The Food Standards Agency (FSA), Food Standards Scotland (FSS), and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) are reinforcing their advice to vulnerable groups of consumers (those who are over 65, pregnant, or have weakened immune systems) concerning the risks of Listeria monocytogenes infection linked to ready to eat smoked fish. The investigation has identified 14 linked cases of listeriosis since 2020, with eight of these since January 2022. Cases have been identified in England and Scotland. The majority of these individuals reported eating ready-to-eat smoked fish.
