Temporary import requirements for romaine lettuce from the United States (2023) – Canadian Food Inspection Agency

Romaine lettuce imported from the US has been associated with several outbreaks of foodborne E. coli O157:H7 illnesses in Canada. The source of the outbreaks was identified as California Salinas Valley counties of Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, San Benito, and Monterey. To decrease the risk associated with E. coli O157:H7 in romaine lettuce, the CFIA is implementing temporary Safe Food for Canadians (SFC) license requirements for the importation of romaine lettuce originating from the US Between September 28 and December 20, 2023. Shewa Frozen Dough Industries recalls several products after an inspection by the Health Ministry’s Central District Food Service in Israel

The Jerusalem Post reported that after an inspection by the Central District Food Service in the Health Ministry found Salmonella in several products, Shewa Frozen Dough Industries Ltd. recalled the products. Salmonella was found in Kreplach “10” filled with chicken meat weighing 500 grams Barcode 7290005786990, Production date 07.17.2023 Expires 09.16.2023, and in “Elite” kreplach filled with turkey meat weighing 1 kg, barcode 7290005786082 production date 06.26.2023 expires 08.25.2023. Purchasers of these products are asked not to consume them. SSS brand Enoki Mushroom recalled in Canada due to Listeria monocytogenes

The CFIA reported that Itrading International (Toronto, Ontario) recalled SSS Enoki Mushrooms from the Canadian marketplace due to suspected Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The Enoki Mushrooms were sold in 200 gram packages.
