Additional ground cinnamon was added to the FDA Public Health Alert due to the presence of elevated levels of lead

The FDA has added Jiva Organic cinnamon to its list of products with elevated levels of lead. The samples were collected at a retail store by the FDA. Exposure to the product might be unsafe, especially for children. This is the first addition to the list since July 2024. The FDA is advising consumers to throw away and not to buy the ground cinnamon products because samples of products listed in the table were found to contain elevated levels of lead.

In Austria, AGES reported that Salmonella Kenya, a rare strain of Salmonella, caused 49 illnesses

AGES, the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety, reported that since August 2025, 49 people in all federal states of Austria have fallen ill with a rare strain of Salmonella. 15 people had to be hospitalized. The Ministry of Health has commissioned AGES to investigate this food-borne outbreak. Salmonella Kenya is rare throughout Europe. However, several other European countries have now also registered cases of illness with this strain of Salmonella. In the UK, Island Salads recalled Potato and Bacon Salad products due to Listeria monocytogenes

The FSA reported that Island Salads is recalling Potato and Bacon Salad products because they may contain Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products are Island Salads Potato & Bacon Salad (300g) with a “use by” date of September 25, 2025, and Provence Potato & Bacon Salad (200g) with a “use by” date of September 16, 2025. In Canada, the Shaikh Al Kar brand Tahini was recalled due to Salmonella

The CFIA triggered a recall of Shaikh Al Kar brand Tahini due to potential Salmonella contamination. Test results by CFIA showed a positive Salmonella result. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product. The recall is for the 400 g size of Tahini with a best before date of August 12, 2026. The Tahini was distributed in British Columbia. This recall is the latest of the company’s recalled products.
