On July 16, 2025, World Market initiated a recall of 9.7-oz Emek Spread Pistachio Cacao Cream with Kadavi after Salmonella was detected in retail samples collected by state partners. Whole genome sequencing (WGS) revealed that the strain of Salmonella detected in retail samples does not match the outbreak strain. Recalled product that tested positive for Salmonella should no longer be available for sale. The FDA and CDC, in collaboration with state and local partners, investigated illnesses in a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Oranienburg infections linked to Emek Pistachio Cream manufactured by Emek Dogal Saglik Urunleri Iklim Gida Insaat San Tic Ltd Sti in Turkey. A total of four cases infected with the outbreak strain of Salmonella were reported from two states (MN, NJ). In addition to sampling conducted by state partners, the FDA collected import samples of Emek-brand products containing pistachio cream. Salmonella was detected in Emek Spread Pistachio Cacao Cream with Kadayif and Emek Pistachio Cream. WGS revealed that the strain of Salmonella detected in the import samples does not match the outbreak strain. Products that tested positive for Salmonella were not distributed and should not be available for sale. Products from Emek Dogal Saglik Urunleri Iklim Gida Insaat San Tic Ltd Sti have been placed on Import Alert, and FDA and state partners are conducting follow up activities with the firm and their importers to address this issue.
