In Germany, an outbreak due to enterohemorrhagic E. coli O45:H2 with 45 cases

The Biothreats Emergence, Analysis, and Communications Network (BEACON) reported that a rare strain of E. coli (O45:H2) has caused an outbreak in Germany, with 45 cases, including 12 children, mainly in Mecklenburg–Vorpommern and linked secondary detections in other states. As of September 08, 2025, 12  children developed HUS, requiring intensive care and dialysis. No deaths have been reported. The source of infection is still under investigation, with food and environmental samples being tested, but no confirmed link to any product.
