AGES, the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety, reported that since August 2025, 49 people in all federal states of Austria have fallen ill with a rare strain of Salmonella. 15 people had to be hospitalized. The Ministry of Health has commissioned AGES to investigate this food-borne outbreak. Salmonella Kenya is rare throughout Europe. However, several other European countries have now also registered cases of illness with this strain of Salmonella.
