The FDA issued the highest-level recall (Class I) for peeled garlic sold in the US

The FDA has issued a Class I recall, its most serious designation for peeled garlic products sold in New York, Vermont, and Pennsylvania due to a potential risk of botulism. The recall involves Christopher Ranch and Garland Fresh peeled garlic products distributed through Tops Friendly Markets stores in. The affected products were sold in 6-ounce containers and include UPCs 00068826753408, 00071894000005, and 00007457410852. All best-by dates and code dates are impacted. According to the recall notice, the garlic was improperly stored in open-air coolers that failed to maintain the required temperature range. These products should be kept between 32°F and 35–37°F; however, the storage conditions did not consistently meet these requirements. As a result, there is a potential risk of Clostridium botulinum growth. On March 27, Tops Friendly Markets initiated a recall after identifying a temperature-control issue in its stores. Consumers who purchased the affected products are advised not to consume them, to return them to the place of purchase for a refund, or to discard them safely. @ https://nypost.com/2026/03/28/us-news/fda-issues-highest-level-recall-for-peeled-garlic-product-citing-botulism-risk/
