While the investigation is ongoing, available information indicates that lettuce or salad greens may be a potential source of this outbreak. However, other food items cannot be ruled out entirely. No specific type of produce, grower, or supplier has been identified as the source. The Michigan case count is 11,234. As of July 30, 2026, 193 reported cases indicated they had been hospitalized, including 2 deaths. Two deaths have been identified as part of the cyclosporiasis outbreak affecting Michigan. According to medical records, both individuals had significant underlying health conditions that may have been impacted by cyclosporiasis and dehydration. The two Michigan cases became ill before the voluntary recall of iceberg lettuce. Cyclosporiasis is generally not a life-threatening illness. Death resulting from cyclosporiasis is uncommon in the United States.
