The CDC published cyclosporiasis surveillance data reported to the CDC from the start of the cyclosporiasis season on May 1, 2026, through the end of the season on August 31. Recent illnesses may not yet be reported because it takes time to identify and report Cyclospora cases. It takes about six weeks from symptom onset for CDC to receive case information. The true number of people sick with cyclosporiasis is likely higher than the number reported. This is because some people recover without medical care and are not tested for Cyclospora. CDC and FDA are investigating multiple clusters of cyclosporiasis. Since May 1, 2026, CDC has received reports of 19,595 laboratory-confirmed cases of cyclosporiasis acquired in the US. For comparison, the United States reported 1,180 cases between May 1 and August 31, 2025. The outbreak also included 1,043 hospitalizations and 2 deaths. The data include the cases reported in the multistate outbreak linked to iceberg lettuce that recently ended. The data also include cases not linked to that outbreak. Almost all states had cases of cyclosporiasis. State health departments may have more information about the situation in their jurisdictions. Additionally, states may report higher case counts than CDC because they may include cases that do not meet CDC's formal reporting criteria. @ https://www.cdc.gov/cyclosporiasis/cases/index.html
