CNN reported that the shredded iceberg lettuce sold at some Taco Bell restaurants has been linked to an outbreak of cyclosporiasis in five states, according to the CDC and the FDA. The CDC requested that people not eat shredded iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell locations in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia in its investigation update. Cases of the intestinal illness caused by Cyclospora are surging across the US, with nearly 7,000 cases confirmed or under investigation since May 1, according to data published Tuesday by the CDC. States have reported at least 141 hospitalizations. The outbreak linked to the lettuce, however, is considered regional, centered in the Midwest. The CDC has identified at least 1,644 cases associated with the outbreak across the five affected states.
