Nestlé Australia recalled Alfamino Infant Formula (0-12 months) 400g due to cereulide toxin

Nestlé Australia Ltd is recalling the 400 g Alfamino specialized infant formula. The product has been available for sale in pharmacies, hospitals, and online nationally. The recall is due to the potential presence of cereulide, a toxin produced by Bacillus cereus. Nestlé recalls Alfamino Infant Formula in Australia, following similar recalls worldwide. The 400g tins of Alfamino Infant Formula are manufactured in Switzerland for children aged up to 12 months who are living with milk allergies or a food intolerance. Nestlé Australia said the recall was a precautionary move due to the potential presence of the toxin cereulide, which can trigger vomiting, diarrhoea, or unusual lethargy. Symptoms may appear between 30 minutes and 6 hours after exposure and typically resolve within 24 hours, according to Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ). “Cereulide can cause gastrointestinal illness, but there have been no reports of associated illness in Australia or internationally,” FSANZ chief executive Sandra Cuthbert said. The problem is believed to be linked to an ingredient supplied by a third party, Nestlé said, which owns more than 2,000 brands, including KitKat, Milo, and Nescafé. @ https://mailchi.mp/foodstandards.gov.au/britt-food-recall-alert-draft-mock-up-2696027?e=ff7a9e6b52
