The Norwegian Institute of Public Health (FHI) has confirmed a national outbreak of Yersinia enterocolitica involving 9 confirmed cases and at least 6 suspected cases. Affected individuals are widely distributed across regions such as Trøndelag, Vestfold, Telemark, Østfold, Innlandet, Rogaland, and Vestland. The source of the outbreak is unknown. The FHI has initiated an outbreak investigation. The goal is to prevent further spread of the infection. The 15 people included in the outbreak were tested between May 26 and June 15. They are infected with Yersinia enterocolitica O3. Bacterial sample analysis confirms that the cases share the same genotype, suggesting a common source of infection. The source of the outbreak has been identified just days after it was announced. The FHI said that the national outbreak of Yersinia enterocolitica O3 was likely caused by a pre-mixed salad product.
