In Canada, the outbreak continues, and various pistachios and pistachio-containing products are being recalled due to Salmonella
On July 24, 2025, the CFIA issued the first recall of pistachios and pistachio containing products. Since the recall of pistachios, products containing pistachios have continued. Recalls have been issued for pistachios sold at specific grocery stores in North Vancouver, Brampton, and Barrhaven, as well as for various pistachio-containing products distributed in Ontario and Quebec. Canada is experiencing a widespread Salmonella outbreak linked to pistachios, with numerous recalls issued in October 2025, including products from a North Vancouver market and various pistachio-containing items sold online and in Ontario. The CFIA is continuing to issue recalls. According to PHAC data from September 24, there were 105 laboratory-confirmed cases of Salmonella Havana, Salmonella Mbandaka, Salmonella Meleagridis, Salmonella Tennessee, Salmonella Anatum, Salmonella Bareilly and Salmonella Senftenberg illness linked to this outbreak in British Columbia (6), Alberta (4), Manitoba (1), Ontario (27), Quebec (66), and New Brunswick (1). 16 people were hospitalized. The outbreak has led to numerous recalls of both raw pistachios and pistachio-containing products like chocolate and pastries. The CFIA announced it will implement a temporary restriction on imports of pistachios and pistachio-containing products from Iran as a precautionary measure to protect Canadians from the risk of Salmonella infection. In addition, as a condition of their Safe Food for Canadians license, all importers of pistachios and pistachio containing products will be required to show proof that these products do not originate from Iran in order to be accepted into Canada. Due to the long shelf life of the products, which can be frozen for over a year or two, it may take up to 2027 for the outbreak to be over. @ https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/public-health-notices/2025/outbreak-salmonella-infections-pistachios-related-products.html
