MAPAQ, in collaboration with the company Les Marchés Valérie et Martin Varennes inc. (IGA Extra),(1777, route 132, in Varennes), advises the public not to consume FRESH LEAN MINCED PORK, as the food is likely to be contaminated with STEC E. coli. The product was offered for sale only on March 16, 2026, at the establishment listed above. It was displayed on a polystyrene tray and covered with plastic film. It was sold refrigerated. Although this product was sold more than a month ago, it may still be frozen in consumers' freezers. The manufacturer has agreed with the Ministry to issue this warning as a precautionary measure. Anyone in possession of this product is advised not to consume it. It should be noted that properly cooking the meat destroys E coli. Preparing cooked dishes, such as spaghetti sauce, shepherd's pie, or meat pie, requires a long cooking time and a sufficiently high temperature to kill E. coli. It should be noted that no cases of illness associated with this food have been reported to MAPAQ to date. @ https://www.quebec.ca/nouvelles/actualites/details/mise-en-garde-a-la-population-presence-possible-de-e-coli-dans-le-porc-hache-maigre-prepare-par-lentreprise-les-marches-valerie-et-martin-varennes-inc-iga-extra-et-vendu-uniquement-le-16-mars-2026-69697
