Core update as of May 06, 2026

The CORE update lists three outbreak and adverse event postings. The CDC declared the outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 (ref #1369) linked to raw cheddar cheese over. As of April 30, 2026, the CDC announced that the outbreak is over. CDC reports a total of nine illnesses in three states. The outbreak of infant botulism (ref #1350) linked to infant formula, the FDA's outbreak investigation has closed. FDA will continue investigating the root cause(s) of the outbreak and will update the webpage with specific information on FDA's ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of powdered infant formula the outbreak of Salmonella Newport and Kentucky (ref #1365) linked to moringa powder. The Executive summary abstract can now be accessed by clicking the reference number. It summarizes that on 2/6/2026, CDC notified CORE Signals about a new extensively drug-resistant Salmonella Newport cluster. Following a CDC-hosted Multistate call held on the same day, CDC identified moringa leaf powder as the leading hypothesis. CORE conducted a traceback investigation for Rosabella moringa leaf capsules purchased online and consumed by five S. Newport cases and two S. Kentucky cases. During the response, FDA and state partners collected 22 samples throughout the investigation. One of the product samples collected from a case's home tested positive for S. Newport and matched the outbreak strain.
