Core update as of February 04, 2026

The CORE update list of outbreaks and adverse events includes five event postings. The outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium (ref #1358) was updated to include moringa leaf powder as the vehicle associated with the illnesses. On January 29, 2026, the FDA updated the information to include an additional recall for a lot of Why Not Natural Pure Organic Moringa Green Superfood capsules and to add Salmonella Newport cases based on the CDC’s investigation. The FDA has initiated sampling. Since the last update on January 15, 2026, 20 new illnesses have been reported, including a new outbreak strain of Salmonella Newport. As of January 29, 2026, the CDC reported that 65 people from 28 states have been infected with one of the outbreak strains of Salmonella. Epidemiologic and traceback evidence showed that moringa leaf powder is the source of contamination in this outbreak. For the outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes (ref #1309) linked to an unidentified product, the FDA’s outbreak investigation is complete. On 9/11/2025, the outbreak of Salmonella Lomalinda (ref #1339) linked to spring mix, the CDC named leafy greens as the leading vehicle of interest. Seven cases that reported exposures to Ready-to-Eat (RTE) organic baby spring mix salads. The outbreak investigation was moved to the Closed 2025 Table. The outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes (ref #1334) was linked to an unidentified product. The traceback could not conclusively implicate a firm or any specific product type. The outbreak investigation was moved to the Closed 2025 Table.  The Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak (ref #1329) was linked to an unidentified product. The outbreak investigation was moved to the Closed 2025 Table. For the outbreak of Cyclospora cayetanensis (ref #1325) linked to parsley, including 33 cases. Based on available traceback and epidemiologic evidence, fresh parsley was identified as the confirmed vehicle for this outbreak, but no source of contamination was identified during the investigation. As of 11/19/2025, this incident includes 69 laboratory-confirmed Cyclospora spp. cases. infections in four. The outbreak investigation was moved to the Closed 2025 Table. The outbreak of Cyclospora cayetanensis (ref #1313) was linked to an unidentified product; all samples tested were negative for Cyclospora. Due to insufficient epidemiologic, traceback, and laboratory data, a specific product or source of contamination was not identified. As of 11/19/2025, this incident includes 47 laboratory-confirmed Cyclospora spp. cases. infection. infections in four states.
